Rugs
While designing rugs for the first time for the 'Gardens' exhibition at Palazzo Fortuny in Venice I realised what an extraordinary medium it is for a painter- a giant canvas with sculptural potential. Hand tufted woollen 'Flower Power' rug is an evolution of ' Faded Bouquet' also seen here.It was produced in Ireland by Ceadogan Rugmakers.
The ' Book of Kells' rug series are inspired by a famous Irish historic source. The ornate celtic lettering of the 6th century manuscript has been recomposed into words, some of which resonate particularly in today's world, others that are eternal. They are in silk and wool, handknotted in India. They have been shown in Showlab Pellini , Milan in an exhibition 'Rugs and Jewels' and in The Irish Georgian Society in November 2018.
'Elusive Tiger' and 'Tiger feet' are in silk and wool, handknotted in Nepal.
'Vertical Garden' is handwoven and knotted in India, finished in Milan.
