About
Wild Tapestries: preloved textiles are refashioned into works of art
Ancient yet contemporary
Punk yet precious
Wild yet ordered
Nuala Goodman is known for the ‘Wild Tapestries’ that she makes from pre-loved, colourful fabrics. In creating these wall tapestries, Goodman returns to her roots as a painter, this time replacing painting with textile.
On the occasion of the ‘(re)-Discoveries’ exhibition, several slashed, wild tapestries have been transformed into coats. The tapestries become wearable art pieces which can also be hung on a wall as paintings.
The same is true of ‘the artist’s palette’ shoulderbags which refer to a painter’s palette in both form and colour.
Nuala Goodman is an Irish artist who lives in Milan. She draws, paints, writes, designs textiles and occasionally curates exhibitions for the Irish Government. She is a professor of Project Methodology and of Textile Design at NABA-Nuova Accademia dei Belle Arti- in Milan, and Rome. Her work is represented in several public and numerous private collections, including Palazzo Fortuny in Vemice and the Irish Government’s State Art Collection.
